Dental Fillings in Connecticut to Fix Your Cavities
Dental fillings can help improve your overall dental hygiene by removing cavities. Why Dental Fillings?
When a cavity, decay, or injured tooth is left untreated, decay can spread past the tooth enamel into deeper levels of the tooth and into the pulp. If the decay reaches the soft tooth structure or dental pulp, a treatment like a root canal or extraction may be needed. It is important to get dental fillings before the decayed area becomes too large to fill.
Composite fillings are widely used in dentistry to repair teeth. Composite fillings are aesthetically suited for use in front teeth and more visible areas and are also used in the back of the mouth.
Why might you need a filling at the dentist?
- Chipped teeth
- Closing space between two teeth
- Cracked or broken teeth
- Decayed teeth (cavities)
- Worn teeth
- Root erosion/recession
What to Expect
BeforeTreatment
If you experience any of these symptoms, talk with your dentist to see if you may need a filling:
- Toothache or pain when biting down
- Sensitivity to heat or cold
- Pain when eating or drinking
- Bad breath
- Visible holes, pits, or black/brown discoloration
DuringTreatment
Getting a filling is a relatively pain-free experience. In most cases, the dentist will numb your mouth for the procedure. Depending on the number of cavities that need to be filled, your dentist can complete the fillings in one or more treatments.
While the tooth is numb, your dentist will remove the decay and thoroughly clean and prepare the tooth before the filling is placed. The dentist is able to remove the decayed areas of the tooth as necessary because the filling is then bonded to the tooth and provides a durable, natural-looking restoration.
The white composite resin used in the filling process is a tooth-colored material that is often offered in a variety of shades of white to match the natural color of your teeth.
AfterTreatment
Practice good oral hygiene to take care of your fillings, teeth, and gums. Here are some tips to extend the life of your filling:
- Brush thoroughly twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
- Floss daily and use alcohol-free mouthwash to reduce bacteria in your mouth and between your teeth
- Limit sugary, sticky snacks
- Don't use tobacco products
- Limit food and drinks that stain teeth like coffee, soda, juice, wine, and tea. Rinse your mouth with water after consuming these products
- Avoid biting down on hard foods and chewing ice
- See a dentist or hygienist once or twice a year for dental checkups and preventative cleanings

Great dental office! I’ve been going here basically my entire life (over 30 years) and they have always been amazing! Friendly staff and great service!
Once again Dr Green hit the high marks for her caring gentle dentistry! I’m having my 2 front uppers capped after 70 years of use and she is able to make the process, if not enjoyable, at least as comfortable as possible. I enjoy that she shares the step by step with me and isn’t opposed to adding a little light humor.
When you need emergency dental care...you call Groton Dental Group. Fast, efficient, caring, and professional.
I had an appointment last week but was running late. The staff was accommodating and friendly. Lisa was welcoming and helpful by assuring me I’d still get in to keep my appointment. Lisa as always went above and beyond. I’ve been a loyal patient for 5 years and love the staff and doctors.
My experience with Tori was the best!!! She was super gentle with my teeth and even offered me some numbing gel when they were sensitive. I have never had someone so concerned with my comfort while cleaning my teeth. She’s the only one I trust with my teeth now!
